Meet the World Travel Center Staff |
|

Sue Shuman, Owner |
|
Sue
graduated from Kansas State University in 1961 with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Radio & Television. After 20+ years as first a legal
secretary and later an executive secretary, she purchased World
Travel Center in December, 1983. In celebration of the big career
change, she went to dinner at a Chinese restaurant with friends the
evening she signed the contract to purchase the agency. Her fortune
that evening read, “Take time to travel; your troubles will
unravel.”
A friend captured
that phrase in needlepoint, and it still hangs in her office today,
a constant reminder of how prophetic that saying was to become. She
is currently the oldest travel agency owner in Salina, both in terms
of chronological age and business longevity. Her great love is
escorting groups, and vows never to retire as long as her health is
good, and friends and clients still want an escort to take them to
fun and exciting places. |

Joyce Williams, Manager |
|
Joyce
graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Interior Horticulture, with a minor in Interior Design.
She has worked in sales all her adult life. Joyce has been key in
the success of World Travel Center since she came to work for the
company in 1985. She had a five year “leave of absence” from 1989
to 1994 when her husband, Ted, was transferred to Ohio.
Fortunately, he transferred back to Salina and she returned to World
Travel Center.
Joyce accomplishes
any task she attempts, and is a master at multi-tasking. She has a
“steel trap” memory for details and is an expert on cruising,
vacation packages, and both domestic and international destinations.

Jan Long, Agent |
|
Jan started
her career as a travel agent in 1976 after completing the 9-month
Travel and Tourism course at Brown Mackie College here in Salina.
Jan “retired” in 1985 to stay home and be a full-time mother. But
when the “travel bug” bites you, it’s hard to leave the field
permanently. Jan went back to work as a part-time travel agent from
1992 to 1995. Then came the boom in computer technology. She was
able to work at home as an outside sales agent for World Travel
Center and still be involved with her children’s school activities.
In April, 2004, Jan was
persuaded to return to her original full-time position as a travel agent
in our office. In addition to her role as full-time wife, mother and
travel agent, Jan is active in her church. Jan has a keen
eye for detail, and loves working on groups, cruises, honeymoon
planning, and vacation packages. |

Bridget Wampler, Agent |
|
Bridget
graduated from Cloud County Community College with an Associate’s
degree in Applied Science in 1995. This degree completed the
college’s Travel and Tourism program. She started with another
travel agency after graduation, but World Travel Center was
fortunate to become her “travel home” in July, 1997.
Bridget is multi-talented at balancing her busy travel career with
her other full-time role as a wife and mother of two small children.
She relates well
to all ages of travelers, but seems to have a knack for finding
great packages for honeymoon couples and Walt Disney World-bound
families.

Sarah Buechel,
Group Coordinator
|
|
Sarah
graduated from KU in 1978 with a BA degree in Environmental
Science. She began her travel career organizing group tours and
cruises in Lawrence, KS. She happily traveled through Europe,
Greece & Eqypt, as well as several US destinations, and in 1984 earned her CTC
(Certified Travel Counselor) designation. After relocating to the
Pacific Northwest, she worked in marketing & office management in
the life insurance industry.
As our very
capable group coordinator since January 2007, she quietly works her
magic in the background making the rest of the group department look
good.
